She was only 3 years old and it was the first song I ever taught her. I even got her to hold up the right fingers when belting out "for it's ONE, TWO, THEEE strikes, you're out!"

But, she hadn't been to Fenway since my grandparents took her when she was 9. It was time she got back there.

I bought tickets back in December, lots of games to go to with my kids. But I bought a pair  just for the two of us. She hadn't been able to stop talking about it since. The day was finally here. Broken foot and all, she was going.

There was excitement around every corner for her. I could swear I saw her fingers tremble as I handed her the ticket. The crowds, the smells, the sounds all amazed her. We had to stop to listen to the band and watch the "stilt guy" play with the crowd, but we finally managed to get to the gate and go inside.

We stood with the cluster of fans at the elevators, ready to go up to the 5th floor. The car on the right was almost full, and could take only one more person, so we took a step back. A single person passed in front of us and got on the elevator. "OMG" it was Jerry Remy! My sister couldn't believe she just saw him! We got on the next car, and took our ride up to where we were going to watch the game.

There is nothing that can compare with seeing the field at Fenway. Each time makes you catch your breath. It had only been 10 days for me, for my sister though, it had been much longer. "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" she cried while hugging me. "This is amazing!"

We checked out the area, chose a spot, and settled in to watch the game. And what a game!  Although the Sox were losing 5-0 for most of the game, we never never gave up. We know what the team can do in later innings, and this game was not exceptions. Getting 2 runs in the 7th was just a preview of what was to come in the 8th. 4 more runs in the 8th and Papelbon closing the ninth, was a sweet ending to a great day.

And of course, we both sang that song I had taught her so many years ago...  "Take me out the Ballgame", and held up the right fingers at the right time.

We have to do this again!

Love ya Annie!
