About Red Sox Chat
RedSoxChat.com was started sometime around opening day of the 2007 season. Using a decent chat script, Burleson7 posted a message to the Red Sox Nation message board and waited. About 7-8 people showed up, but by the 6th inning the chatroom was empty. On day two, it was just Burleson7 and a guy named Frank.
Frank didn't make it for day three, and the room became pretty inactive. It was used by two whackjobs to for net sex every morning around 1am. They probably didn\t know that the room had logs.
In mid-august of 2007, Burleson7 was preparing for a Red Sox Nation presidential run. In doing so, he joing as many Red Sox groups/lists he could find, and posted the link to the chatroom. This time more people showed up. Including a chatter named Jess. Jess used her superior messaging skills and powers of persuasion to swell the room membership. From that day on, the room was seldom smaller than 8 people during a game, and sometimes as many as 25. All in all about 160 people joined, and around 80 of them were frequent chatters. Members came from all over the world, often to get a play by play when they lacked a radio or tv with coverage.
The next 2.5 months had a ton in store for the RSC chatters. Burleson7 was in fact selected as one of the candidates for RSN president, but lost to a dog. This did not discourage the new friends on RSC, and the room thrived, picking up it's own character. Jess became HBAJess, Pitschi's 5th inning clip was born, RedSoxOasis worked on her perfect attendance, and an RSC dialect was born. Who (from that original group) will forget "sad", "we own the 6th", "manny-a-due", or RemBot?
At the end of the season, the room drifted off into obscurity, until eventually the server it was running on got unplugged. Over the winter, Burleson7 evaluated new packages, and eventally decided to give the social networking route a try. So, that\s our brief history. Just a handful of people that love the Sox who became good friends, and enjoyed "watching" the game together.
